FINAL INSTRUCTIONS

2 Peter 3:14-18 KJV

 ¹⁴Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. ¹⁵And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; ¹⁶As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. ¹⁷Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. ¹⁸But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

2 Peter 3:14-18 (AMP)

¹⁴So, beloved, since you are expecting these things, be eager to be found by Him [at His coming] without spot or blemish and at peace [in serene confidence, ^[a]free from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts]. ¹⁵And consider that the long-suffering of our Lord [^[b]His slowness in avenging wrongs and judging the world] is salvation (^[c]that which is conducive to the soul's safety), even as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the spiritual insight given him, ¹⁶Speaking of this as he does in all of his letters. There are some things in those [epistles of Paul] that are difficult to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist and misconstrue to their own ^[d]utter destruction, just as [they distort and misinterpret] the rest of the Scriptures. ¹⁷Let me warn you therefore, beloved, that knowing these things beforehand, you should be on your guard, lest you be carried away by the error of lawless and wicked [persons and] fall from your own [present] firm condition [your own steadfastness of mind]. ¹⁸But grow in grace (undeserved favor, spiritual strength) and ^[e]recognition and knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him [be] glory (honor, majesty, and splendor) both now and to the day of eternity. Amen (so be it)!

1.    CONDITION OF HEART CONCERNING END TIME THINGS

·         Be diligent

·         Be in peace

·         Be without spot (through His forgiveness and the Blood of Christ)

·         Be blameless

·         Consider: the longsuffering of the Lord = salvation

2.    STAY ON GUARD

·         Enemies of the cross will try to wrest (distort) the Scriptures

·         Stay firm in faith and grow honoring God from now till eternity v. 18

OUR TASK IS TO STAY PURE AND LIVE FOR JESUS UNTIL HE COMES FOR US.

OF END TIME THINGS: PART 1

2 Peter 3:1-6 KJV

 ¹This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: ²That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: ³Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, ⁴And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. ⁵For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: ⁶Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

2 Peter 3:1-6 AMP

 ¹BELOVED, I am now writing you this second letter. In [both of] them I have stirred up your unsullied (sincere) mind by way of remembrance, ²That you should recall the predictions of the holy (consecrated, dedicated) prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior [given] through your apostles (His special messengers). ³To begin with, you must know and understand this, that scoffers (mockers) will come in the last days with scoffing, [people who] walk after their own fleshly desires ⁴And say, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the forefathers fell asleep, all things have continued exactly as they did from the beginning of creation. ⁵For they willfully overlook and forget this [fact], that the heavens [came into] existence long ago by the word of God, and the earth also which was formed out of water and by means of water, ⁶Through which the world that then [existed] was deluged with water and perished.

1.   REASON FOR THIS 2^ND EPISTLE

·         Stir up your pure minds

·         Remembrance

·         That you may be mindful

2.   WHAT TO EXPECT AS THE END OF TIME APPROACHES

·         First, scoffers (mockers)

·         Willingly ignorant (put out of their minds)

§  That God created the Earth

§  How God made the earth

§  What happened because of sin

REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE AND WHAT HE HAS PROMISED HE WILL DO AND ADJUST YOUR LIVES ACCORDINGLY!

THE NATURE & END OF THE UNGODLY

2 PETER 2:11-22 (KJV)

 ¹¹Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. ¹²But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; ¹³And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; ¹⁴Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: ¹⁵Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. ¹⁸For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. ¹⁹While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. ²⁰For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. ²¹For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. ²²But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, the dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

1.    THOSE THAT WALK AFTER THE FLESH (vs. 10)

ü  Speak evil of dignitaries

ü  Vs. 11 continues: even angels don’t dare do what these wicked do

2.    DESCRIPTION OF WICKED DEEDS

ü  Speak evil of the things that they understand not - v.12

ü  As they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time – v. 13

ü  Sporting themselves with their own deceivings – v.13

ü  Having eyes full of adultery; Cannot cease from sin; Beguiling unstable souls; Use covetous practices – v. 14

ü  Have forsaken the right way – v. 15

3.    BALAAM’S ERROR

ü  Loved the wages of unrighteousness (Numbers 22)

4.    THESE USED TO BE FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST

ü  Now returned to their sin and have become worse
