STUDIES IN ROMANS
LESSON 65

THE SUM OF THE LAW

Romans 13:8-10 (KJV)

Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Romans 13:8-10 (CEB)

Don’t be in debt to anyone, except for the obligation to love each other. Whoever loves another person has fulfilled the Law. The commandments, Don’t commit adultery, don’t murder, don’t steal, don’t desire what others have,[a] and any other commandments, are all summed up in one word: You must love your neighbor as yourself.[b] 10 Love doesn’t do anything wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is what fulfills the Law.

STUDIES IN ROMANS
LESSON 62

THE BODY OF CHRIST – LIFE DIRECTIONS (2)

Romans 12:16-21 (KJV)

16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12:16-21 (CEB)

16 Consider everyone as equal, and don’t think that you’re better than anyone else. Instead, associate with people who have no status. Don’t think that you’re so smart.17 Don’t pay back anyone for their evil actions with evil actions, but show respect for what everyone else believes is good. 18 If possible, to the best of your ability, live at peace with all people. 19 Don’t try to get revenge for yourselves, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath. It is written, Revenge belongs to me; I will pay it back, says the Lord.[a] 20 Instead, If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. By doing this, you will pile burning coals of fire upon his head.[b] 21 Don’t be defeated by evil, but defeat evil with good.

1.    MORE DIRECTIONS FOR VICTORIOUS CHRIST LIKE LIVING

Ø  Think: we are all equal (16)

Ø  Don’t try to get above everyone else, but lift up the downtrodden (16)

Ø  Don’t think you are better than others (16)

Ø  Don’t return evil actions for evil actions (17)

Ø  Be honest with all (17)

Ø  If possible, to the best of your ability, live at peace with all people (18)

Ø  Don’t try to get revenge, let God take care of it, He said He would (19)

Ø  INSTEAD: if your enemy is hungry or thirsty, take care of him; he won’t understand and will have no defense for this kind of treatment – it will be worse to him than if you fight him, for he expects a fight, but not kindness (20)

Ø  Overcome evil by doing good (21)

FOLLOW THIS PATTERN AND ALL WILL KNOW YOU HAVE BEEN WITH JESUS.
