SET FREE BY THE SPIRIT
Romans
8:1-4 (KJV)

There
is therefore now no
condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not
after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For
what the law could not do,
in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh,
and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law
might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

So now there isn’t any condemnation for
those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has
set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 God has done what was impossible
for the Law, since it was weak because of selfishness. God condemned sin in the body by sending his own
Son to deal with sin in the same body as humans, who are controlled by
sin. 4 He did this so that the righteous
requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us. NOW THE WAY WE LIVE IS BASED ON THE SPIRIT, NOT BASED ON SELFISHNESS. (my emphasis)

the phrase “who walk not after the flesh,
but after the Spirit” has been added by the translators – not in most
translations. Though it is stated in
v.4, it changes the emphasis from grace to works here.
