OVERCOMING THE ENEMY

1 Peter 5:8-11 (KJV)

8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 5:8-11 (AMP)

8Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [[a]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. 9Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset--rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same ([b]identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world. 10And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace [Who imparts all blessing and favor], Who has called you to His [own] eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself complete and make you what you ought to be, establish and ground you securely, and strengthen, and settle you. 11To Him be the dominion (power, authority, rule) forever and ever. Amen (so be it).

1. CAUTION – LOOSE LION!

• Be watchful

• Hungry lion looking for someone to eat

2. HOW TO DEFEAT THE ENEMY

• Resist him – withstand him (AMP)

• Steadfast in the faith – be firm in faith

• Against his onset: rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined

• Knowing everyone gets the same treatment

3. HOW GOD WILL HELP

• Imparts favor and blessing

• Has called you to his own eternal glory in Christ Jesus

• Will complete and make you what you ought to be

• Establish, ground, strengthen and settle you

4. HOW TO RESPONDTO GOD’S HELP

• Declare: To him be glory and dominion forever & ever. Amen!
