LESSON 21

RECONCILED TO POSITION IN CHRIST

Romans 5:6-11 (KJV)

⁶ For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷ For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. ⁸ But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹ Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. ¹⁰ For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. ¹¹ And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Romans 5:6-11 (CEB)

⁶ While we were still weak, at the right moment, Christ died for ungodly people. ⁷ It isn’t often that someone will die for a righteous person, though maybe someone might dare to die for a good person. ⁸ But God shows his love for us, because while we were still sinners Christ died for us. ⁹ So, now that we have been made righteous by his blood, we can be even more certain that we will be saved from God’s wrath through him. ¹⁰ If we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son while we were still enemies, now that we have been reconciled, how much more certain is it that we will be saved by his life? ¹¹ And not only that: we even take pride in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, the one through whom we now have a restored relationship with God.

1.    IN DUE TIME v 6-8

Ø  Christ died for the ungodly

Ø  Barely possible a man would die for either a righteous or good man

Ø  While we were yet sinners – Christ died for us

2.    NOW JUSTIFIED v 9-10

Ø  Been made righteous – right before God

Ø  By His blood

Ø  More certain we will be saved from God’s wrath

Ø  If this happened while we were enemies of God, more certain we will be saved now that we are friends of God through Christ

3.    WE JOY IN GOD v 11

Ø  Not just saved, but full of joy because of it

Ø  Take pride in being in this position with God

Ø  We have received the atonement – some say “at-one-ment” or one with God

LET US REJOICE IN OUR SALVATION WITH ASSURANCE IT IS GOOD FOR ETERNITY.
