STUDIES IN ROMANS

LESSON 49

THE PREACHERS’ PROBLEM

Romans 10:16-21 (KJV)

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. 19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. 21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Romans 10:16-21

Common English Bible (CEB)

16 But everyone hasn’t obeyed the good news. As Isaiah says, Lord, who has had faith in our message?[a] 17 So, faith comes from listening, but it’s listening by means of Christ’s message. 18 But I ask you, didn’t they hear it? Definitely! Their voice has gone out into the entire earth, and their message has gone out to the corners of the inhabited world.[b] 19 But I ask you again, didn’t Israel understand? First, Moses says, I will make you jealous of those who aren’t a people, of a people without understanding.[c] 20 And Isaiah even dares to say, I was found by those who didn’t look for me; I revealed myself to those who didn’t ask for me.[d] 21 But he says about Israel, All day long I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.[e]

Ø  People who hear the Gospel don’t always accept it

Ø  Many in Israel did not and still don’t

2.    DIDN’T ISRAEL KNOW & HEAR? – V. 19-21

Ø  See footnotes

Ø  The record stands that God has done His part to inform and call Israel (and the world) to Christ, but many still do not receive God’s invitation and help
